Follow your provider’s instructions about pausing retinoids, exfoliating acids, waxing, or other potentially irritating treatments before your chemical peel, and avoid excessive sun exposure. Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids 5 to 7 days before your appointment. For certain pigment concerns, your provider may recommend a preparatory skincare routine before treatment.

Your provider assesses your skin type and tone, reviews your health and treatment history, and discusses any pigmentation concerns. The peel solution and depth are then selected based on your skin, goals, and desired recovery time.
