Under Eye PRF in Alpharetta

145+ 5-star reviews

PRF is platelet rich fibrin, spun from a small sample of your own blood with no anticoagulant and nothing added. It forms a soft fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors slowly over several days, which is the main way it differs from PRP.

  • Uses only your own blood, so there is nothing synthetic and no allergic risk.
  • Thickens delicate under eye skin, which reduces how much of the underlying vessel shows through.
  • Adds no volume and creates no risk of puffiness, which is the common complaint after under eye filler.
  • Dark circles from thin skin
  • Crepey texture beneath the eyes
  • Fine lines
  • Dullness in the under eye area
  • Early laxity
  • Skin quality after weight loss
  • Tired appearance despite sleeping well
  • Skin too thin for filler
  • Adults whose dark circles come from thin skin rather than hollowing
  • Anyone told they are not a good candidate for tear trough filler
  • Patients comfortable with a small blood draw at each visit
  • Not suitable with clotting disorders, certain blood conditions or during pregnancy

Before & After

Skin texture and tone improved across a 3 session PRF series. Collagen builds over weeks 8 to 12.

What Under Eye PRF Is and How It Works

PRF IS PLATELET RICH FIBRIN, SPUN FROM YOUR OWN BLOOD WITH NOTHING ADDED. A small draw goes into the centrifuge at a lower speed than PRP, and without the anticoagulant PRP requires. What separates out is a soft fibrin scaffold holding your platelets and white cells rather than a thin plasma layer.

That scaffold is the point. It holds the growth factors in place under the thin skin beneath your eyes and releases them slowly across several days instead of all at once, which is why PRF suits patients whose skin needs a longer, gentler stimulus.

What it will not do is fill a hollow. PRF thickens the skin and improves its quality. If your darkness comes from genuine volume loss or from pigment sitting in the skin, PRF is the wrong treatment and we will tell you at consultation.

Numbing goes on under the eyes first, and we let it work.

Is PRF right for you?

PRF suits a specific under eye problem and not others. Here is what we look for, and what we would tell you honestly at consultation.

The clearest indication. If your circles look blue or purple and lighten when you stretch the skin, thickening it helps.
Many people have skin too thin or eyes too prone to puffiness for tear trough filler. PRF is the sensible alternative.
If the darkness is a shadow cast by genuine volume loss, filler addresses it and PRF will not. We will say so.
PRF is a sensible next step once tear trough filler has been removed and the area has settled.
Fine crinkling beneath the eyes improves as collagen builds and the skin regains some substance.
Everything used comes from your own blood, with nothing foreign left behind.
Brown rather than blue discoloration is pigment, which responds to topical treatment and peels instead.
Results build across a series rather than appearing at once. If you need to look different next week, this is not the treatment.

PRF vs. PRP

PRF and PRP both come from your own blood and both work by delivering growth factors to thin under eye skin. The difference is how they are prepared. PRP is spun fast with an anticoagulant and releases its growth factors quickly. PRF is spun slower with nothing added, so it clots naturally into a fibrin scaffold and releases growth factors gradually over several days. Neither adds volume.

Both are autologous, meaning everything injected comes from your own blood. Your provider will recommend one over the other based on your skin and how you have responded to previous treatment.

What to Expect

We book a full hour for an under eye PRF appointment. Here is what to expect, from the blood draw and numbing through the injections and your two week follow up.

  1. 1

    Preparation (before your visit)

Hydrate well the day before and the morning of, since it makes the draw easier and improves the yield. Eat a full meal beforehand. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen for several days, since they blunt the platelet response.

  2. 2

    Consultation and assessment

Your provider determines why your under eyes look dark. Thin skin, hollowing and pigment look similar and are treated completely differently, so this step decides whether PRP is even the right treatment.

  3. 3

    The blood draw (5 minutes)

A small draw comparable to a routine blood test. It goes straight into the centrifuge, which separates the platelet rich layer while your skin is being numbed.

  1. 4

    Numbing (about 20 minutes)

Topical numbing is applied under the eyes and left to take full effect. This area is sensitive and we do not rush it.

  2. 5

The injections (10 to 15 minutes)

PRP is placed in small deposits beneath the eyes using a fine needle or a blunt cannula. Most patients describe brief stinging. Bruising here is common and we will tell you that before, not after. Before you leave, our physician checks in on you and reviews the result.

  3. 6

    Your two week follow up

We book a two week review for every patient to check healing and confirm the plan for your series. Visible change comes later, which is the honest trade. Collagen builds over eight to twelve weeks and keeps improving across the series, and most patients need three sessions before judging the result.

Treatment Frequency

Finding Your Rhythm

Start the response

One session begins collagen building but produces little visible change on its own. We are upfront that this treatment works through accumulation.

4 to 6 wk

Build the series

Three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each adds to the collagen laid down by the last, which is where the visible improvement comes from.

1 / yr

Ongoing maintenance

After the series, an annual session maintains the result. Under eye improvement tends to hold well once the skin has genuinely thickened.

Your Journey, Continued

PRF improves the quality and thickness of under eye skin. It does not fill a hollow, lift a brow or treat pigment, which is why it is often planned alongside something that does.

Skin Rejuvenation & Anti-Aging at Geneva Exosome Therapy in Alpharetta

Platelet rich plasma made from a small sample of your own blood, injected into the thin skin beneath the eyes. The platelets carry growth factors that prompt collagen production, gradually thickening the skin and improving its quality.

It depends entirely on the cause. Circles caused by thin skin letting underlying vessels show through respond well, because thickening the skin reduces what shows. Circles caused by hollowing need filler. Circles caused by pigment need topical treatment or peels. Your consultation identifies which you have.

A rough test is to stretch the skin gently. If the darkness lightens, it is likely vascular and thin skin. If a shadow persists with a defined edge, it is likely hollowing. If the colour is brown rather than blue, it is likely pigment. We confirm at your consultation.

PRF is spun more slowly and without anticoagulant, which preserves a fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors over several days rather than immediately. Both work. Your provider selects based on the area and the protocol, and will explain which they are using and why.

The draw is a brief pinch. The injections are done under topical numbing and most patients describe brief stinging. The under eye area is sensitive and we take our time with numbing.

Quite possibly, and we would rather tell you now than afterwards. The under eye area bruises easily. Bruising typically lasts three to seven days and is concealable with makeup after the first day. Do not book this immediately before an important event.

Three spaced four to six weeks apart for most patients, then an annual maintenance session. A single treatment rarely produces the full result, which is why we plan it as a series from the start.

Gradually over eight to twelve weeks as collagen forms, continuing to improve across the series. Nothing changes in the first fortnight, which is the honest trade for a treatment that adds nothing synthetic.

It carries no risk of puffiness, migration or the blue tinge that misplaced filler can cause under thin skin, and no allergic risk since it comes from you. It is not risk free, but the risk profile is favourable in this particular area.

Bruising and swelling at the injection sites are the usual effects. Serious complications are rare because nothing foreign is introduced. PRP is not suitable with certain clotting or blood disorders, and we screen for those beforehand.

Alcohol for 24 hours and anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil for several days, since they blunt the platelet response and increase bruising. Hydrate well and eat before your appointment.
